About

At Greenroom136, there are two reasons for our existence;

  1. Design and manufacture really awesome Urban City bags that will both inspire and last you a life time.
  2. Inspire creative thinkers – through our video podcast ConcreteJungle – to take a bold step and make their dreams come true.

The idea of Greenroom bags came about early of 2008. I was introduced to the idea when a friend shared about his bag manufacturing facility in China and was explaining to us the potentials of the venture. At the point of discussion, my buddy and I was already in the market looking for a venture to focus our efforts on. Needless to say the news of this manufacturing facility in China was a timely coincidence.

We started work on researching feasibility; with my buddy taking care of business and sales while I dabbled on product design and marketing since I was the more creative type. Our hopes were dashed when we saw the first prototype.

Not admitting to failure and being the stubborn prick I am, I stuck on the project taking on research over the fundamentals of building the perfect urban messenger bag and brand. Studying over such successful companies as Crumpler, Timbuk2, Chrome, Manhattan Portage, Porter and many others.

Next, i took courage and bought my very first sewing machine after realising how stupid and time-consuming it was to build prototypes by hand. I was welcomed with uncomfortable stares from Singer sales people trying to fathom why a man is buying a sewing machine – understand that their customers in this part of world are predominantly, ladies; perhaps it was the reason why they were overly friendly in teaching me the basics. It took many months of trial and error of self-learning (which surprisingly was not difficult); material searching and testing. Broke the machine a few times but the investment paid off when I came face to face with our very first Greenroom bag; JunkMonkey Heretic. The many failed prototype designs and WTF moments was worth it.

about Concretejungle

ConcreteJungle was a name a buddy and I, came up with when we first dabbled into online blogging back in the dotcom era before the eventful bubble burst; a time when blogging was a profession not even officially invented yet. The site was preconceived to be a knowledge resource for local entrepreneurs researching into starting up their venture. The project was canned because after numerous research and discussions, we had too many questions left unanswerable. Since then, we both moved on to acquire our MBA and to gain more knowledge before ever returning to startups.

Today, the idea of Project ConcreteJungle evolved. It is now a search for local entrepreneurs to showcase and celebrate their story. Be it a business venture or a thought provoking project, this series of video interviews will account their story of zero to hero.

“Heroes start from zero”, first came about when encountered with numerous banters from nay-sayers about entrepreneurship. It is common to come to face with people reminding new startups of the larger competition ahead. And that failure is imminent due to the weaknesses of a scrappy startup. With the help from the interviews, ConcreteJungle is to prove that all successful business begin from a humble zero and that anything is possible with pure determination.

The essence of ConcreteJungle is still strong after all these years. It is still a resource for local entrepreneurs and leaders. And, what better way to learn about the subject by learning from the experts of the field.

ConcreteJungle is produced by Patrick Lim and is done with absolutely NO budget. The objective is to impart knowledge, therefore production and commercial value is downplayed – poor audio visual quality is highly dependent on the circumstances of the interview. The interviews will be FREE for viewing, sharing and fully supported by Greenroom136.
